Sue and Doug were first on the scene, followed by the Musaccs, Aaron Cole and the Bouchers (including Graciekins). We managed to set up the compound in no time - we even set up Patty & Buoy's tent - that's the way to camp! I insisted my Dad not miss the walleye tournament so Buoy had to keep Mom warm.
Our new tent! By the next weekend at Jude's birthday party, it was rumored that our tent had 5 rooms - not going to lie, it is a pretty sweet tent.

Doug resurrected a few camping items from the original Musacchio camping trips (circa early 80's)... our favorites remain the ice cream cone lights. We spotted these a few weeks later at the Dairy Dock in Marblehead - new version, red/white/blue - didn't come close to these classics.

I celebrated the new decade with some serious sweets... first, the ridiculous brownie!
Then, how I really reacted to a brownie that size...
The "big 3-0" didn't bother me too much - I'm far too happy and loved to worry about turning 30. I did, however, have a brief reaction to actually seeing the number candles - 3 and 0 - wow.
Sue and Patty - dedicated campfire sitters...

Our visitor by the river - he would spend some time when the kids would finally pass by on their inner tubes. It was a gorgeous weekend, but it wasn't that warm.
Our other visitors by the river were several mallards - two of which Chris came very close to luring into Aaron's tent! He managed to discreetly lay a path of bread bits from the river to Aaron's tent, but when Schal picked up on the snickering she outted his efforts and Aaron's lair was saved. No laugh loss - we are still laughing at the thought of Aaron heading to bed only to find a mallard couple camped out on his air mattress.
Schal is a dedicated golfer - the Bouchers had to pack up on Saturday afternoon to head back to the Memorial Tourney so she could serve some hungry spectators. The rest of us left for a hike and returned to the Thayers!

Bethany Anne has some serious corn-hole form... she and Bennett were a force to be reckoned with for sure!

While Bennett may have almost convinced her that it was a bad gift, thankfully, Bethany didn't cave. I was soon presented with an (already seasoned!) cast iron skillet and two packages of cookie dough. Seriously. This may have sealed the deal on me adoring camping trips.

Fair warning... let the stuff cool a bit before digging in!

The only person more excited about food for the campfire was Bennett... he was primed and ready to go for his Hebrew National All-Beef Franks. Later that night, we were plagued by the Heeb Hunter - a frisky raccoon that decided to steal Bennett's last dog under the cover of night. Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeb Hunter!
Bennett's last words:
Thanks to everyone for helping ensure my 30th birthday was one of the best ever! Except for the white spider, it was a perfect weekend with 3 very perfect sites and darn good food.
6.7.09 - woke up thinking that life really is good,
jamie.

Great weekend....except "raccoon run" could have been a little farther from my head when I was snuggled into my sleeping bag for a good nights sleep. Thanks Doug.
