We booked our favorite campsite at Mohican for my birthday weekend in the dead of winter... six months ahead. With all of that planning, we didn't note that The Memorial Tournament happened to coincide with our camping weekend. Big mistake. The Memorial = monsoon.
The weekend also coincided with Bentley's stay with Grandma Karen (my Auntie Karn). I had hoped that he could come and stay the night; however, when I pulled up to the site I realized that we were at the threshold of hell. I had hoped to set the tent up and surprise Todd and Aaron since I got their first. Instead, I called Todd in tears because our site was effectively a pond.
We went for pizza since there clearly wasn't going to be a fire that night. When we got back, there was enough of a break in weather that we got the tents up. Thankfully, we had a dry night and were oblivious to the fact that tornadoes were tearing things up only miles away from our site.
The next day had pockets of clear skies... and visitors! Mom and Dad (with his hip new beard)...
Bentley! I love this kid and his shared affinity for Nirvana.
... and Auntie Karn! Go easy on the photos - they didn't sleep in the rain.
Dad was excited to hop in his new ride and head to the Lake. I loved Ni and tried to take good care of him, but I have a feeling that this car will now live in the lap of luxury. I'm glad he is staying in the family.
After looking at the radar on Aaron's phone, we realized we should forfeit our final night and head back to the comforts of 237. I've never touched so many slugs and spiders - I just wanted that tent packed up and headed home.
On my actual birthday, Todd gave me a card. I loved the card and realized that it felt very familiar. A quick glance over to my desk confirmed that Todd gave me the same card last year and I liked it so much it stayed out all year. Classic.
I was also surprised to see a note on the door that a package from Edible Arrangements was left for me at the neighbor's house. It was a bouquet of chocolate covered strawberry "roses" from Laura! Aren't friends wonderful? I love her.
31 may have been soggy but we found The Barn,
jamie.
